REPEATING MIRACLES
MEMORISE:
‘We will rejoice in thy salvation, And in the name of our
God we will set up our banners: the Lord fulfil all petitions.’
(Ps 20:5)
READ: I Samuel 17:34-37
Our
God is awesome. He is the Almighty, the One who has all power
in heaven, on earth and beneath the earth. There is nothing too
difficult for him to do or undo. If you know God well enough,
you will understand why it is easy for him to do what he says
he will do. In life’s journey, we find a recurrence of similar
events. Although their configuration may be slightly different,
their essence is the same. For instance, the children of Israel
were confronted with death and destruction by invading enemies.
This happened over and over again. Sometimes the same enemies
resurfaced at a later date. At other times it was a new enemy.
God
gave them victory again and again; in fact, each victory became
an assurance for the next. But whenever the children of Israel
forgot their past, they quaked before their enemies and sometimes
were defeated. This was due to forgetting the secret of their
victory the previous time they had been attacked. David faced
death when he was attacked by a lion and a bear respectively.
Each time, he trusted in God and God gave him the victory. When
he was to face death again through Goliath, in 1 Samuel 17:37:
‘David said moreover, The Lord that delivered me out of
the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver
me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David,
Go, and the Lord be with thee.’
God,
true to David’s words, gave him victory over Goliath. It
is the same with us today. Anything God has done before, he can
do again, irrespective of its configuration. God divided the Red
Sea for Israel to pass, under the leadship of Moses on their way
out from Egypt. Later, under Joshua, God parted the river Jordan
before Israel. Much later, in 2 Kings 2:7-14, Elijah and Elisha
parted the river Jordan with God’s anointing on them. God
asked Joshua to erect 12 stones as a memorial to the miracle he
did for them, for the remembrance of future generations (John
4:8-9).
If
God has healed you before of a headache, he can heal you again
of any other ailment. If he has delivered you from one enemy,
he can deliver you from many enemies. Anything he has done before
in his Word, and in our time for anyone else, he can repeat in
your life. Call on him.
