KNOWING GOD’S PURPOSE

MEMORISE: ‘Ye are bought with a price; be not ye the servants of men.’ (1 Cor 7:23)
READ: Hebrews 2: 14-15

When you enter God’s presence and hear his voice, you are likely to discover God’s purpose for your life. Some people leave this world without ever having known the reason why they came into it in the first place. There can hardly be a bigger tragedy than that.

In Exodus 3: 1 -4 we read of an 80 year old man who discovered God’s purpose for his life just as he was getting ready for retirement. That man’s name was Moses. How old are you? Do you know God’s purpose for your life? Even if you’re 80 already, it’s not too late! Moses never spent time in God’s presence prior to his experience at the burning bush. But once he had that encounter with God, things began to pick up speed very rapidly.

‘And Simeon answering said unto him, master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net’ (Luk 5:5).

This is simply a summary of many of our lives. For years we have been fishing without catching anything. Many of us have earned salaries for years and have nothing to show for it. Life is not supposed to be a futile exercise. You are not born to run around in circles, without ever achieving any goals. Our God is a God of purpose. In John 3:16, God says he gave his only begotten Son for a purpose – so that anyone who believes in him can be saved.

According to our passage, Jesus Christ died so that – through death – he might destroy the one with the power of death, and in the process deliver those who had been in bondage to the spirit of death. God created everything for a purpose. Proverbs 16:4 says even the wicked were created for a purpose. God has refused to destroy Satan since his rebellion because he needed someone to conduct examination for Him. When he does not need Satan anymore, God will put him in prison for 1000 years. You have been created for a purpose. Go to God and ask him: Why have you created me? You must do this so that God can reveal his plan for your life.

ACTION POINT
Ask God to reveal his purpose for your life to you. Reflect on it and ask God to protect you against every attack from the enemy as you pursue your goals to his glory.
