USING THE UNUSABLE

MEMORISE: ‘For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many might, not many nobles, are called…’ (1 Cor 1: 26)
READ: 1 Corinthians 1: 26-29

God’s way differ from men’s in a very dramatic way. For instance, to rise, the world says take steps up and do all you can to pull down those who are already up, so you can replace them. But to rise with God, you have to go down. In fact, the lower your descent, the higher you will end up. In the same way, instead of choosing the most talented, knowledgeable and noble to do his work, God looks out for the foolish, the weak, the base and the despised in the eyes of the world. His intention is to display his wisdom, strength, glory and honour through them.

‘And he sad unto me, “My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness”’ (2 Cor 12:9). God does not want flesh to be glorified in his sight. He does not want people to put their confidence in their abilities, skills, wisdom, power, money or position, because these will surely fail them some day.

‘Thus saith the LORD, let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches: But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the LORD which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these thing I delight, saith the LORD’ (Jer 9: 23-24).

Moreover, God finds it difficult to use the wise and highly accomplished in his service. This is because they find it difficult to obey him. When he asks the professor to go right, he may advance 100 scientific reasons why going left will be better. Hence God is at home with a foolish or ignorant person, as they will easily yield to God and receive his divine wisdom.

God’s way may appear foolish to man. If you want God to bless you, then be ready to follow his seemingly foolish directions: you will soon discover that his foolishness is wiser than the wisdom of man at its best. Is God using you today? Congratulations! If you want to sustain that relationship, you must be ready to follow him foolishly, like a zombie. The more foolishly you yield to his every instruction, the more successful and wise you will be.

ACTION POINT
Ask God to make you foolish enough for his use and to
Let your life draw others to him wherever you go.
