USING
GOD’S EYES
MEMORISE:
‘I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which
thou shalt go; I will guide thee with mine eye.’ (Ps 32:
8)
READ:
1 Samuel 16: 6- 13
The
prophet Samuel invited Jesse’s family to the sacrifice
he made at Bethlehem to determine which of his children God
has chosen to be the next king. When Jesse presented them one
by one, even the prophet missed God’s choice, because
he depended on his physical eyes during the selection. Then
God gave him the secret: ‘But the LORD said unto Samuel,
Look not on his countenance or on the height of his stature;
because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth;
for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh
on the heart’ (1 Sam 16:7).
As
believers at one time or another we are confronted by a crucial
decision capable of impacting upon our destiny. At such moments,
look beyond your eyes, which can only assess things physically.
Insist on depending on God’s eyes, which will X-ray the
situation and thereafter give you the right leading. Depending
on your physical eyes limits you terribly. And most of the time
you might miss God. Even as a man of God, if you do not insist
on subjecting that situation to God’s pruning eyes, like
Samuel, you may misjudge it. 1 Samuel 2: 3 says….’
The LORD is a God is knowledge, an by him actions are weighed.’
God
looks beyond your deeds. He probes into your heart to actually
find out why you did that particular thing. This way, someone
who did a charitable deed will lose his reward because he did
it to be seen of men- while the one who took an excessive step
out of zeal towards God, may win God’s approval because
he did wrong with the right motive.
‘Favour
is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the
LORD, she shall be praised’ (Prov 31:30). Making your
choice of marriage partner based on beauty, wealth an other
physical yardsticks may cause you to choose wrongly. But allowing
God to choose for you will make you the right choice. Resolve
from today to begin to use God’s eyes.
