Corinthians 7:6-9
Not
everyone will be married. Marriage is beautiful but strictly
speaking, the one who does not marry does better than the one
who marries. Most of those God used mightily in scripture never
married. They include Elijah, Elisha, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Jesus,
Stephen and Paul. Personally, I am happily married and enjoying
marriage because my wife has been of tremendous help to me.
In fact, I always miss her whenever I am away from home.
1
Corinthians 7:34 says that while the married mind the things
of their spouse, the unmarried focus on pleasing God. I believe
that when we get to heaven, the unmarried might score higher
marks than the married. So the first thing you should settle
is whether God wants you to marry or not. If God tells you 'No,'
then ask him to empower you to settle down and begin serious
work for him. But, you might say, did God not ask us to increase
and multiply? True. But do all who marry have children?
There
is a particular sister who is trusting God for children. We
have prayed fervently for her but until today, she has no children.
But she had led several souls to the Lord and become spiritually
fruitful. Some of her converts have become pastors. You may
be surprised to discover that in heaven, some women who were
barren have more children than those who produced children while
on earth.
Matthew
19:12, tells of classes of eunuch is somebody who cannot marry.
There are some people who for the sake of the work of God have
refused to marry. There is a sister about 70 years of age, who
is single and has never married. God has used her to bless so
many people. Instead of being busy caring for her husband and
children, she chose to be busy praying. This is a greater level
of consecration. People may say she is still single because
no man came her way. Let them say what they like. What's important
is what God is saying. And in heaven, the difference will be
obvious. Have you found out if you are thus called?
ACTION POINT
Pray for the single brothers and sisters in the church that
God would guide them In the choice of a marriage partner (Mention
specific names).
