A New Song
Text: Luke 7:11-15
Today
is the last day of the year . A few hours from now, a new year
will be heralded in by shouts of Happy New Year!’ How best
can we spend this day than by singing songs of praise unto God
for His mercies? Today, I feel like singing a new song. I feel
like erupting into rapturous singing. You may wonder why you must
sing when you seem not to have witnessed the total fulfillment
of your dreams for this year. You have lots of reasons to sing
a new song unto the Lord. God has brought you this far.
The
future is in His hands. You will sing a new song when God opens
your eyes spiritually. When you receive the touch of the Holy
Spirit, you will sing a new song. The Lord will turn your captivity
so that you will have a new song. Psalms 126:1 says: “When
the LORD turned again the captivity of Zion, we were like them
that dream. Then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue
with singing.” When the children of Israel got to the Red
Sea there was no way forward. When they saw Pharaoh and his soldiers
behind them, they became dejected and quarried Moses. However,
the Almighty God who had decided to have mercy on them showed
up and divided the Red Sea for them to pass. He destroyed their
enemies. By the next morning, they had a new song (Exodus 15).
When
David escaped from Saul and all his enemies, a new song came into
his mouth, as recorded in Psalm 48. When God decides to have mercy
on you, a new song will come into your mouth. Even in heaven,
we shall sing new songs (Revelation 7:9-10, 11-12). There, we
shall sing songs of ultimate victory. Do not worry about all the
problems associated with the passing year. A new year is at the
door.
This
coming year is pregnant with spiritual and material blessings
for you. However, you must not forget to learn from your past
mistakes. Jesus is the only One you can trust. When there is a
crisis in your life, you should not look unto anyone other than
the Lord Jesus Christ. He is the only One who can stand by you
as you face the challenges of the coming year.
Memory Verse: Psalms 48:1 - “Great
is the LORD, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God,
in the mountain of his holiness.”
