Abraham’s Journey
Text: Genesis 12:1-20
Many people make grievous mistakes
as they journey through life. A lot of people hardly examine the
direction is which they travel, until there is an accident. When
things go wrong, such people shift the blame to others. You must
own up your shortcomings if you do not want to lick the wounds
of a terrible accident. If you try to cut corners or short-change
others you will discover, sooner or later, that those who sow
the wind will surely reap the whirlwind. In Genesis 12:1-3 God
talked to Abraham and told him to do three things. One, to get
out of the country, two, to get out of his kindred, three, to
get out of his father’s house “And Abram took Sarai
his wife, and Lot his brother’s son, and all their substance
that they had gathered, and the souls that they had gotten in
Haran; and they went forth to go into the land of Canaan; and
into the land of Canaan they came.” God told Abraham to
get out of his kindred but he took his brother’s son. He
complied with only two of God’s instructions. What happened
to him when he got to his destination is recorded in Genesis 12:9-10.
He was supposed to meet blessings, according to God’s promise,
but he met a grievous famine. Instead of staying where God would
bless him, he went to Egypt where he met a greater problem than
famine. He should have asked God what was happening. Perhaps God
would have told him that he was suffering because he obeyed Him
half way. Many Christians are suffering today because they have
not obeyed God completely. It is not enough for you to give your
life to Christ. Your surrender must be total. If you do not surrender
today, you will suffer here on earth and suffer in Hell too.
Memory Verse: ll Corinthians 10:6
- “And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience,
when your obedience is fulfilled”.
