Topic: Secret Sins
Text: John 12:1-8

An erroneous view is in the air. Many people opine that, as long as their faults appear insignificant, there is no risk of missing heaven. Great fallacy! Historic plane crashes; boat mishaps, train accidents and automobile accidents have been caused by what appeared insignificant. If you were a good reader of the Bible you would have discovered that Bible characters lost great opportunities or privileges through seemingly insignificant mistakes. If you indulge in petty sins you will soon be shocked to discover that it has snowballed into a full-blown deadly sin.

Today, let us examine how pretty sins ruined two Bible characters. Moses was raised up by God to lead Israel to the Promised Land. However, he allowed anger to cast a dark cloud on his bright sky. The children of Israel vexed him because they needed water. At the time Moses got to the presence of God, he was still angry because of what the children of Israel said against him. God told Moses to take his rod and speak to the rock for water to come out. Because he was still angry, he did not get the instruction correctly. Sometime, before this time, God had provided water when Moses struck a rock once. Moses thought it was the same process. He struck the rock twice and water came out. This event prevented Moses from getting to the promise land. God is merciful, no doubt. However, at times, when you fall, there may be no restoration. This is why you should flee from sin. Some people believe that it is not possible to live a holy life. If you are not totally holy, you will not make heaven. In the name of Jesus, I will make heaven.

Let us learn a lesson from the example of Judas. His own fault was the love of money. He could not have hated Jesus but Satan was aware that Judas loved money; hence he used what he loved against him. Judas was the treasurer. This means he must have been trusted. However, he started pilfering from the treasury. This graduated to the betrayal of Jesus Christ. He was not even able to spend the money that led to the betrayal. When Peter was talking about Judas after his death, he said something useful for anybody who loves money to take note of. This is in Acts 1:17 and 20: “For he was numbered with us, and had obtained part of this ministry. For it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his habitation be desolate, and let no man dwell therein: and his bishopric let another take.” If your fault is the love of money, by the time Satan uses his joker card on you, your mansion in heaven would have been given to someone else. Your name can be deleted from the book of life if you are not careful. The names of Ananians and Sapphira were once written in the book of life but they have been deleted. May the Lord keep you far from what will cause your name to be deleted from the Book of Life.

Memory Verse: I Timothy 6:10 - “For the love of money is the root of all evil; which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.”
