Topic: Besetting Sins
Text: Numbers 20:7-11

Besetting sins are sins that are easily cling to you. If you don’t deal with besetting sins you may regret eternally. Do you battle with besetting sin? What is it? Is it lying, anger, malice, fornication, pride, etc? You must deal with it. Someone who has not been drinking wine would not be easily lured into it. Lot had been taking wine, so when the time came for Satan to strike, it was easy. By the time Satan finished with Lot, apart from soling his wife, his two daughters committed abominable acts. King Saul who also disobeyed God killed the descendants of this union. This led to the rejection of Saul by God.

Indulgence in hidden faults or flaws brings series of problems. When something is identified as bad, it is to be seen as bad. Deal with besetting sins or they will ruin you. Try to find out those hidden faults in your life that Satan can use against you and get rid of them. Let us also look at Moses. The only fault that Moses had was anger. Satan saw him when he killed an Egyptian in anger. As the Israelites moved in the wilderness, Moses passed through a lot of troubles from them. Satan did not strike at these times. He held on to his joker until Moses got to the edge of the Promised Land. “And Moses took the rod from before the LORD, as he commanded him: and Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said unto them, Hear now, ye rebels, must we fetch you water out of this rock? And Moses lifted up his hand, and, with his rod he smote the rock twice: and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also.”

The Lord gave Moses an instruction. But he was so angry that he did the wrong thing. God told him to speak to the rock, but he smote the rock twice. Remember, the rock is a type of Christ. Smiting the rock was therefore a great blunder. However, God did not deny Himself. Water gushed out and the people had more than enough to drink and give their animals. God performed miracles but He later dealt with the instrument of blessing. Don’t allow the fact that God is doing wonderful things to becloud your vision.

Memory Verse: I Samuel 15:19 - “Wherefore then didst thou not obey the voice of the LORD, But didst upon the spoil, and didst evil in the sight of the LORD?
