Topic:
Personal Holiness
Text: I Peter 1:13-23
We
can draw lots of analogies from the relationship between husband
and wives to understand the relationship between the sanctified
and the Lord. When you become sanctified you become the Lord’s
holy bride. God’s purpose is to “present to Himself
a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle, or any such thing,
but that it should be holy and without blemish”. (Ephesians
5:27). One important thing visible in the life of the sanctified
is that she seeks to please her Husband. The sanctified one is
always looking for ways to please the Almighty God. 2 Timothy
2:4 says: “No man that warreth entangleth himself with the
affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him
to be a soldier.” When God chooses you, He expects you to
please Him. How do you please God? You have to find out what He
loves so as to do it to please Him. Many of us who claim to be
sanctified often seek to please men. Galatians 1:10 has this to
say: “For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to
please men? For if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant
of Christ.” If your life is still controlled by what people
say, then you are not sanctified. Many of us dress to please man
rather than God. We dress to show that we have arrived. Furthermore,
the sanctified uses her Husband as a standard. Many Christians
still use other Christians as their standard. This is why they
remain baby-Christians. The Bible says, in I Peter 1:15-16: “But
as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner
of conversation; because it is written, be ye holy; for I am holy.”
Make God you standard. The demand of Jesus Christ in Matthew 5:48
is a serious one. The more you walk with God the more you are
likely to discover that you need to work on yourself. The closer
you get to Him, the dirtier you appear. This is why the sanctified
person will never become proud. It is those who know nothing about
God who boast. Today, I challenge you to examine yourself. Are
you holy? Do you manifest the qualities of sanctification?
Memory Verse: II Timothy 2:4 - “No man that warreth entangleth
himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him
who hath chosen him to be a soldier”.
