Esther 4 - 7
Topic:
Intercession
Text: I Timothy 2:1-4
The
ministry of intercession is a unique ministry. Intercessors are
close to the heart of the Almighty. His ears are open to the cries
of those who carry the burden of another. What is intercession?
Intercession actually occurs when somebody wants to collide with
your friend and you stand in-between so that, instead of the blow
landing on your loves one, it will land on you.
A
very good example is found in the story of David versus Goliath.
When Goliath challenged the children of Israel and David volunteered
to go he was saying that the blow that would have fallen on Israel
should fall on him. Here is another example: Israel sinned and
God vowed to wipe them out. Moses begged Him to spare them and
instead remove his own name from the book of life. He was telling
God to give him the blow He wanted to give the children of Israel
and let Israel go free. If you can stand in the gap for your beloved
one before God releases His anger, you will prevent the anger
from coming at all.
Ultimately,
both your loved one and you will escape blows. David did not get
a blow from Goliath because he knew what to do. Intercession is
a very serious ministry. Many people do not want to intercede.
People prefer to pray for themselves. If you do not intercede
for others, it is not only the others who will suffer. You will
suffer also. God says you are to weep with them that weep.
This
implies that when you are supposed to be in joy, if something
evil happens to somebody by your side and that fellow is weeping.
Whether you like it or not, you must join in he weeping. In Job
42:10 the Bible says: “And the LORD turned the captivity
of Job, when he prayed for his friends: also the LORD gave Job
twice as much as he had before.” The captivity of job turned
when he prayed for his friends and not when he prayed for himself.
Do not be selfish. Minister to others through prayer and God will
bless you beyond your wildest imagination
Memory Verse: I Timothy - “I exhort therefore, that, first
of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks,
be made for all men.”
