Topic:
The Bane of Laziness
Text: Proverbs 22:13-29
A
lot of people have lost great material and spiritual blessings
through laziness. Laziness is a robber. It deprives people of
what they would have gained if they had put just a little more
effort. Laziness is a barrier to progress and the successful achievement
of life’s goals. Also, no laziness is allowed when you walk
before God. He monitors your activities as you walk before Him.
In
any case, you serve a God who puts a high premium on hard work.
In John 5:17, Jesus Christ said: “But Jesus answered them,
My Father worketh hitherto, and I work.” If your Senior
Partner works non-stop, you cannot afford to be lazy. Our followers
are watching us, their spiritual leaders. When we work hard they,
too are compelled to work hard. When we work hard, His grace will
be sufficient for us. In John 1:10, the Bible says of Jesus: “He
was in the world, and the world was made by Him, and the world
knew him not.” Proverbs 22:29 says: “Seest thou a
man diligent in his business? He shall stand before kings; he
shall not stand before mean men.” God has a way of rewarding
your hard work, no matter how remotely you may be located. He
will so arrange things for you to be able to stand before kings,
if you are really hardworking. But if you are a mere lazy propagandist,
God has a supernatural way of ensuring that you end up before
mean men where you will not be able to enjoy His grace.
Proverbs
18:9 says: “He also that is slothful in his work is brother
to him that is a great waster.” God hates slothfulness.
The one who is not hard working is a great waster. Romans 12:11
says: “Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving
the Lord.” If you are slothful in business, you will reap
failure, poverty and shame. A lazy Christian would remain poor.
A lazy believer would suffer great loss.
Memory Verse: I Corinthians 9:27 - “But I keep under my
body, and bring it into subjection, lest that by any means, when
I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.”
