Topic:Motivation
Text: Luke 14:25-33
Your
level of motivation determines the totality of your physical and
spiritual achievements in life. Motivation is persuading someone
to reach a goal. But why would one be persuaded to reach a goal?
It may be for a change of state where one may wish to avoid the
stigma of non-achievement. It may be cause there is comfort waiting
for one upon the attainment of the goal.
Jesus
is our perfect example. He was highly motivated. He had a goal
and was resolutely determined to achieve it. In Hebrews 12:2,
the Bible says, “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher
of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured
the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand
of the throne of God.’ Jesus Christ endures the cross because
He knew that, after the cross, He would obtain a name above all
names.
Moreover,
if you are walking towards a goal, you must count the cost of
reaching the goal and must be willing to pay the price. A goal
that does not cost you anything will never get you anywhere. For
example, if you have to step out while it is raining you must
be prepared to get wet. You will have to compare the cost of achieving
your purpose for getting out in the rain and the cost of not achieving
it when you sit at home. Jesus Christ counted the cost before
He went to the cross.
That
is why He laid emphasis on goal setting and planning. Luke 14:28-30
says: “For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth
not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient
to finish it? Lest happily, after he hath laid the foundation,
and is not able to finish it: all that behold it begin to mock
him, saying, this man began to build, and was not able to finish.”
Do you desire to build a physical or spiritual tower? You must
be ready to pay the price. Remember, achieving life’s goals
is no easy task. You may go through crisis in spite of the fact
that God loves you.
It
is a glorious thing to be a favourite of God but if you go through
the scriptures, you will discover that it is the favourites of
God whom God dealt with harshly most. The way He dealt with all
other nations of the world is different from the way He dealt
with the children of Israel. Therefore, if things appear tough,
it does not mean that you will not achieve your goals. Impossibilities
usually precede great achievements. They are forerunners of great
exploits.
Memory Verse: Romans 8:38.39 - “For I am persuaded, that
neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers,
nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth,
nor any other creature…”
