WHAT LEGACY?
MEMORISE:
'And the LORD smelled a sweet savor; and the LORD said in his
heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man's sake'
(Gen 8:21a)
READ:
Acts 13:22-23
A legacy is what you leave behind
when you are gone- such as things for which you have no further
need. Elisha moved under the anointing of the Holy Ghost during
his life on earth. Proverbs 18; 16 says a man's gift makes room
for him and gives him power to wine and dine with the great. The
gift of the Holy Ghost in Elisha's life opened doors for him everywhere
he went, and gave him access to places, which he normally would
not have been able to enter.
When Elisha' came to the end of
life, he did not need that power anymore, because there is no
sickness, poverty, pain or sorrow in heaven. So he left it behind.
At least one dead man still benefited from his legacy when he
suddenly came to life after touching Elisha's bones. What are
you leaving behind when you exit this world? In Genesis 22; 15-
18 God promised to bless Abraham and extend the blessing beyond
him. That means all Abraham's descendants were blessed as a result
of the covenant he made with God. Isaac was blessed. His son Jacob-
who later became Israel- was blessed. In fact, Galatians 3;13-14
promises that gentiles who accept Jesus Christ as Lord will automatically
become spiritual children of Abraham, which means that they qualify
for the same blessings. Imagine that: a single covenant between
Abraham and God, based on Abraham's desire to live a life which
would please God, has become a legacy through which anyone in
the world who receives Christ can be blessed.
Some people leave debts behind,
like the prophet in 2 kings 4:1. Some leave curses for the generations
after them, like Gehazi ( 2 Kings 5: 27). Joshua's legacy was
the fear of God ( Josh 24:15). Jesus Christ hung on Calvary to
make his blood and Name available for us today. Every covenant
you enter, every move you make, and everything you do, every way
you behave and every seed you sow form part of your future- a
future which may outlive you. A future that will affect generations
to come. What legacy are you leaving behind?
