MINISTERING
TO MINISTERS
MEMORISE:
‘Let him that is taught in the word communicate unto him
that teacheth in all good things.’ (Gal 6:6)
READ: Philippians 4:11-19
Ministers of the Gospel of Christ are those who have given themselves
as bond slaves to serve Jesus. Many of them have had to make
sacrifices, and continue to do so for the sake of the gospel.
Some have had to leave their educational and professional ambitions,
well-paid jobs, great opportunities and family convenience just
to heed the call to the ministry. Even when some retain their
secular work, they find it very challenging to cope. As children
of God, we are put in the care of the pastor of our local parish.
God expects certain things from us with regard to the assignment
he has given to these pastors. You have a role to play in their
ministry.
You
can be an Aaron or Hur to your Pastor. Aaron and Hur were pillars.
They were the ones who helped to uphold the hands of Moses until
the Israelites defeated their enemies. For their sake, the sun
stood still at Gibeon. You too can help to sustain the vision
the Lord has given your Pastor. You can do this by praying for
him.
Paul
in his letter to the church at Thessalonica says: ‘Brethren,
pray for us’ (1 Thess 5:25). The ministers as under-shepherds
are constant targets of satanic missiles. Severally, because
of watching over the flock, they, their families and finances
are under heavy attack. Some think that pastors are self-sufficient.
This is far from the truth. In fact, the greater the anointing
on the pastor, the more the Lord will use him to devastate the
kingdom of Satan; the more therefore should you intercede for
him.
Besides,
you can minister to him financially and materially. According
to verse 17 of our reading, such a seed will go into your record
and bring a good yield if it is sown cheerfully and with faith.
Your pastor ministers to you in spiritual matters: it is not
a sin if you minister to him materially and financially (Rom
15:27). Do not be a dumping ground or the Dead Sea that continues
to receive without giving. Water your pastor today. Galatians
6:6 commands you to communicate to your ministers.
