CHANGING YOUR SONG

MEMORISE: ‘I will sing of the mercies of the Lord forever: with my mouth will I make known thy faithfulness to all generations.’ (Ps 89:1)
READ: Mark 5: 22- 24, 35- 43

Man is a singing being because God created him to sing. We sing when we are happy and when we are sad. At the birth of a child, we sing. During marriage, we sing. The situation, however, dictates the type of song we sing.

When you hear someone singing, ‘We shall overcome some day’, it means he has just been defeated. The one who sings, ‘Jehovah is your Name’ is most likely engaged in a battle. The one who sings, ‘Now the battle is over, I am more than a conqueror’ has just obtained the victory in battle. When someone sings, ‘I have a very big God by my side’, he is trying to warn an opponent to steer clear.

What song are you singing today? The beauty of our God is that he is able to change your song. Are you singing a dirge, a sorrowful song? The Lord will turn it into a hilarious song of joy in Jesus’ Name. This is because h wants you to make a joyful noise unto him. Music is simply harmonious noise.

In our reading, we meet Jarius. He was a very prominent leader. He was almost of the rank of a bishop. But he had a soft spot, just like everyone else. That was his weakness. He had an only daughter. Satan takes pleasure in creating a dirge, so he attacked her with sickness. She became very ill. Thank God Jarius knew the One who alone can change the song of a man. He ran to Jesus in his desperation.

Jarius was afraid of the shame, loneliness, and sorrow that would result should he lose the battle for his daughter’s life. He was fighting a battle he could not lose. He forgot his wealth and position and fell at Jesus’ feet. He surrendered all to Jesus. Then Jesus swung into action and decided to follow him home. On the way, there was news of the girl’s death. A battle the Lord has taken over will never be lost. Finally, he arrived and raised her to life and changed Jarius’ song to a song of joy. Are you singing a negative song now? The Lord will change your song to joy. Go to him to worship and complete surrender.
