Topic:
The Dangers of a Curse
Text: I Kings 16:31-34
Today,
we shall consider a very instructive Bible story. Here, we are
introduced to what happened in Jericho, a beautiful city under
a heavy curse. Many people’s lives can be likened to Jericho
city. They are beautiful on the surface but carry a heavy burden
underneath. Many have been reduced to walking corpses by curses.
The
genesis of this curse is recorded in the Scriptures: “And
Joshua adjured them at that time, saying, cursed be the man before
the LORD, that riseth up and buildeth this city Jericho: he shall
lay the foundation thereof in this firstborn, and in his youngest
son shall be set up the gates of it”. (Joshua 6:26).
Joshua
pronounced a curse on Jericho after the city fell. He said is
anybody dared to re-build the wall of Jericho, such a fellow’s
first child would die while he is laying the foundation, while
his last born would die when he is finishing the building. The
implication is that, as the fellow continues to build, his children
would be dying from the first to the last. This prophecy was fulfilled
to the letter. “And Ahab made a grove: and Ahab did more
to provoke the LORD God of Israel to anger than all the kings
of Israel that were before him. In his days did Hiel the Bethelite
build Jericho; he laid the foundation thereof in Abram his first
born and set up the gates therefore in his youngest son Segub,
according to the word of the LORD, which he spake by Joshua the
son of Nun.” A curse is a terrible thing. Once it is pronounced
it begins to work. It may work quietly, but it surely works.
Is
there any curse upon your life? Pray until it is removed and you
will begin to lead a blessed life. If you allow a curse to remain
upon your life everything will become sour and bitter.
Jesus
is the bondage breaker. Meet Him today and every curse will be
cancelled. Blessings will flow and curses will cease.
Memory Verse: Joshua 6:26 - “And Joshua adjured them at
that time saying, Cursed be the man before the LORD, that riseth
up and buildeth his city Jericho: he shall lay the foundation
thereof in his firstborn and in his youngest son shall he set
up the gates of it”
