Topic:
The Captain
Text: Ephesians 6:13-17
The
captain of our salvation has made available to us all the weapons
which we will ever need for our warfare. This is stated very clearly
in our text. Principally, there are three weapons: the name of
Jesus, the Word of God and the Blood of Jesus. Praise and Prayer
are also part of our weaponry. The name of Jesus is our greatest
weapon.
The
Bible says: “Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him,
and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name
of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things
in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should
confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the Glory of God the Father”
(Philippians 2:9-11). The name of Jesus Christ is an extremely
powerful weapon. Whenever you use that name in prayer, demons
bow.
In
I Samuel 17:45, David said unto Goliath: “Then said David
to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a
spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the
LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast
defied.” The whole Armour that the bible says we should
put on in our text is reduced to one word, JESUS. The captain
of God’s army has given us His name.
The
mention of His name spells V-I-C-T-O-R-Y! We are more than conquerors
through the name of Jesus. You are not fighting the battle of
life alone. Jesus is your captain. He is always near. He is as
close as the mention of His name. Our text also tells us that
the girdle to use is the truth. Jesus is the Truth (John 14:6).
We are also told to put on the breastplate of righteousness: Jesus
is the Sun of Righteousness (Malachi 4:2; I Corinthians 1:30).
The boot that we are told to put on is the boot of peace: Jesus
is the Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6). Our shield is the shield
of faith: Jesus is the author and finisher of our faith (Hebrew
12:2), He is our shield.
As far as spiritual warfare is concerned, Jesus is all you would
ever need to achieve victory in all your battles. With the Captain
of our Salvation, every soldier is a winner.
Memory Verse: Ephesians 6:10 - “Finally, my brethren, be
strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.”
