Satanic Traps
Text: II Samuel 11:1-27
There
are spiritual booby traps all around us. Additionally, there are
lots of deadly landmines laid across the pathway of Christian
pilgrims. Any wrong step could result in an explosion. This shows
that it is wrong to walk carelessly as if there are no dangers.
Don’t
be deceived. Satan is on the prowl. He stalks, steadily looking
for a prey. If you are careless, you may receive an unexpected
but deadly blow. However, you should not be scared by the fact
that satanic traps abound. An over-comer, in the real sense of
the word, does not fall into the trap of Satan. Anyone
who falls into the trap of Satan cannot overcome. David was careless.
He fell into the enemy’s trap.
Let
us look at II Samuel 11:2, “And it came to pass in an evening
tide, that David arose from off his bed, and walked upon the roof
of the king’s house: and from the roof he saw a woman washing
herself, and the woman was very beautiful to look upon”.
Little did David know that a trap had been set against him. But
God had loved David very much since the time he was a shepherd
boy. Satan knew this.
Those
loved by God face the greatest danger of all. Satan had to seek
for a way of getting rid of David. He decided to use a woman having
her bath as the bait to ensnare him. The problem started when
David saw the woman. He fell for her, had sex with her and she
became pregnant. To cover up what he did, he murdered the woman’s
husband, and then married the woman. God’s verdict came
to him: “Wherefore hast thou despised the commandment of
the LORD… Now therefore the sword shall never depart from
thine house because thou hast despised me, and hast taken the
wife of Uriah the Hittite to be thy wife.” Satan got David.
Till
today, the sword has not left the house of David. May our eyes
not lead us to death. I don’t know the type of trap set
for you by the enemy. You must watch and pray. Any careless slip
may land you in the midst of a killer trap. Keep your eyes wide-awake.
Do not fall into a satanic trap.
Memory Verse: 2 Samuel 12:10 - “Now therefore the sword
shall never depart from thine house; because thou hast despised
me, and hast taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be thy wife.”
