Ps 49 - 51
Topic:
Victory
Text: John 15:1-7
Victory
is your birthright. The Bible says that, “This is the victory
that overcometh the world, even our faith.” When Jesus declared
that, “It is finished” , He was referring to our victory,
hence our victory has been settled. If you are a real child of
God, the devil should be no terror to you. Rather, you are the
one who should frighten him.
As
a Christian, you are expected to have dominion over the devil
and his demons. A testimony from an African brother reveals the
truth of this statement. The man testified that he lived in a
house where he regularly led Christians in vigils, prayers, worship
and glorifying the Lord. Near him lived an idol worshipper who
so hated the brother that, one day, he planned to kill him but
for the intervention of neighbours who came to inform him of the
idol worshipper’s evil intention. Still, rather than get
frightened and go into hiding, the brother stood his ground and
wondered why light should run from darkness. He maintained that
it was the devil that should run from him. Sure enough, after
some time, the idol worshipper packed his things and moved out
of the neighbourhood never to return again. That was how God gave
the brother victory over the satanic agent.
The
Bible says: “And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him because
we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing
in his sight,” (I John 3:22). Our Lord has assured us of
receiving the desires of our hearts. However, to receive those
desires, we must make sure they are God’s desire for us.
One way of ensuring this is to have His words in our hearts and
minds and always do things that are pleasing to Him and in accordance
with His will for us. God’s will and desire is for His children
to be like Him: pure, holy and perfect. So to ensure that our
prayers are answered, we need to live our lives in agreement with
God’s requirement, we can do this by keeping ourselves as
pure as light.
Memory Verse: I John 5:14 - “And
this is the confidence that we have in him, if we ask anything
according to his will, he heareth us. |
