The Jonah Within
Text: Jonah 1:4-10
Many
people are hooked to curses because they have no knowledge of
the practical steps to take to get rid of the curses. Foe example,
if the curse can be traced o environmental factors you may have
to get away from the environment. This reminds me of the story
of how Elisha dealt with the case of a city with bad water, in
II Kings 2:19-22. Questions have been asked on why Elisha asked
for a new cruse. Also why the need for the sail? Why was the salt
applied as the spring of the water? Is there any implication in
the fact that the salt must come in the new cruse? There was need
for a new cruse that had not been contaminated by the cursed water.
The new cruse brought a change. Do you know that curses can come
through contamination? If you get hooked to cursed persons, before
you know it, the curse will infect you own life too. For example,
if you keep eating and drinking with a friend who has tuberculosis,
in the same plates and cups, you should soon need some injections
yourself.
We
discover from the scriptures that one cursed person can contaminate
a whole organization. We find a very good example in the story
of Jonah who was sent on an errand by God but he disobeyed. For
his disobedience, God decided to deal with him by sending a storm
to buffet the ship on which he was traveling. But Jonah was not
alone on the ship. His fellow travelers who feared a shipwreck
as the storm threw their ship hither and hither had to throw their
goods overboard, thus suffering great losses. While all these
were happening, Jonah was sleeping. When Jonah was eventually
found to be the cause of their trouble, they threw him overboard,
as he suggested. Thereafter the storm ceased. My prayer for you
is that if there is any Jonah causing problems in your organization,
may God quickly fish him out, in Jesus’ name. Are you a
Jonah? Ponder and make amends.
Memory Verse: Jonah 1:7 - “And they said everyone to his
fellow, Come, and let us cast lots, that we may know for whose
cause this evil is upon us. So they cast lots, and the lot fell
upon Jonah.”
