Topic: God Of Breakthrough
Text: I Samuel 17:29-35

The prerogative of deciding who receives a breakthrough rests squarely on God’s shoulders. He chooses those who will have a breakthrough. Psalms 115:3 says; “But our God is in the heavens: he hath done whatsoever he hath pleased.” I believe He has chosen you. It is God that directs our footsteps. Without God we can do nothing. He will have mercy, on whom He will have mercy. Many of us do not deserve breakthroughs. Perhaps we have misused His blessings, and used them against Him, yet, because He is a merciful God, He is still upholding us.

The power to bring about breakthroughs is in God. Psalms 62:11 confirm that power belongs to God: “God hath spoken once; twice have I heard this; that power belongeth unto God.” When a man has a breakthrough, struggling ends. When you do not have a breakthrough, you will continue to struggle strenuously while your mates soar. This would make you wonder what is wrong with you. It is just that you have not got a breakthrough. The moment you get a breakthrough, everything becomes easy. Generally, God would speak to the fellow He has chosen for a breakthrough. He may speak directly or though His servant.

He spoke to Sarah directly in Genesis 18:9-15. For ninety years, Sarah had been struggling to have a child. When the breakthrough came, the Almighty God told Sarah that she would weep no more but laugh instead. He also spoke to Hannah through His prophet (I Samuel 1:12-17). When her day came, in the Church where she was praying, God spoke through His servant that she would have a breakthrough. He spoke directly to Peter (Luke 5:10). He told him he had been chosen to become a fisher of men. God chose Elisha for a breakthrough. For several years he was a servant of Elijah. His day came and Elijah asked him what he wanted. Elisha asked for the double portion of Elijah.

God spoke through Elijah to Elisha. That was how Elisha received a double portion of God’s anointing. The moment you hear God’s voice saying that your breakthrough is on the way, it is as good as done. A divine declaration concerning an impending breakthrough signals beginning of extra-ordinary breakthrough.

Memory Verse: Psalms 37:23 - “The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD; and he delighteth in his way.”
