Topic: Hindrances To Purity
Text: I Corinthians 6:1-11
I am sufficiently aware of the
fact that many believers are struggling with hindrances to purity.
A lot of people who partake in our programmes more often tend
to go back to their vomits. Although his category of worshippers
desires to serve God yet they discover that there is a force or
a magnet which keeps on pulling them towards the direction of
unrighteousness deeds and iniquity. What then is the way out?
Being religious is not enough. Such people must get to a point
where they receive the grace of purity, which enables them to
go and sin no more. Today, we shall examine two important things
that hinder believers from living a life of purity.
Covetousness
- When a person being to lust after cars, clothes, houses, land,
and jewelry and such things, the Bible says such a person becomes
an enemy of God. In John 2:16, the Bible says; “And said
unto them that sold doves, take those things hence; make not my
father’s house a house of merchandise.” Do you belong
to the father or to the world? If you do not belong to the world,
you must steer clear from the things of the world. Instead, you
must cling to the things of God.
Lying.
Lying is a snare. In John 8:44, Jesus told the Pharisees: “Ye
are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye
will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in
the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh
a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father
of it.” The moment you begin to lie, you reveal who is your
real father. Jesus called the devil the father of lies and liars.
You cannot make a habit of lying without becoming a child of the
devil. Lying is the trademark of the children of the devil.
If you are a child of God, you
cannot lie because your father is not a liar. Lying, speaking
evil of others, giving false witness and the like belong to Satan
and his children. Impurity makes you an enemy of God. Do not allow
any trace of impurity in your life. Be ye holy as your heavenly
father is holy.
Memory Verse: John 2:16 - “And
said unto them that sold doves, take these things hence make not
my father’s house an house of merchandise.”
