Walking With God
Text: Luke 15:11-19
God
regards the faviourites very highly. They are so highly rated
that He expects them to live up to His expectations. However,
God is disappointed when the behaviour of such highly rated people
leaves much to be desired. Therefore, If God favours you; you
must live up to His standards. Once you become God’s favourite,
you must make perfection your watchword. The moment you become
his favourite, He will not tolerate nonsense from you.
Those
of us willing to reach our goals must be willing to fast, pray
and study the word of God. We must be willing to live holy and
be in absolute obedience to God. Also, if, after counting the
cost, you make your mind to align yourself with God, you must
make the effort to walk before Him in spotless purity. Many who
wish for things to be well with them never really make the effort
to walk with the Lord.
In
our text, the prodigal son made the effort to return home when
he started suffering. He saw from his mind’s eyes the servants
in his father’s house eating, drinking and having a nice
time generally. He knew the shame involved in returning home but
that was all that mattered to him; so, having decided, he arose
(Luke 15:20) and then took a step, which is the next logical thing
for anyone who has decided to reach a goal. You don’t need
to take a million steps at once, no.
Reaching
your goal or walking with God is a step-by-step affair. The Bible
says: “Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with
so great cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and
the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience
the race that is set before us.” (Hebrews 12:1). Be patient
in your walk with God. You may not get to your destination in
just one day. Slow and steady, they say, wins the race.
Memory Verse: I Peter 2:21 - “For even hereunto were ye
called because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example,
that ye should follow his steps.”
